Introduction

Entry into Discover Montessori School's Primary or Elementary program is a three year commitment. Students must complete all three years to fully realize their potential in our Montessori programs. We endeavour to provide prospective families the opportunity to learn as much as possible about our programs prior to enrolment. The best way to know if Montessori education is the right fit for your family is to observe in our classrooms, and to speak at length with our faculty and staff. Enrolment in Montessori programs occurs at the beginning of each level.

Parent Observation
Observations are pre-booked for 9:30am, weekdays. We ask that you come without your child at this stage to enable you to observe without distraction. During the observation you will have the opportunity to see the children working with one another, with their classroom materials, and with their teachers. Most observations will last 30 minutes. After the observation please set time aside to discuss your questions and comments with administration.
Student Tour & Paperwork
If you wish to continue with registration we will set up a day for your child to come in to meet the teacher. This enables your child and the teacher to begin developing a bond and is also an opportunity for the teacher to assess your child's independence and readiness for the program. While your child is with the teacher, you will have the opportunity to go over the enrolment forms with administration. Your child's immunization records and birth information will be required to complete the forms.
Start
September is when enrolment typically begins. New children start school a few days earlier than returning children. This allows them to know one another and to go over some of the basic classroom rules and etiquette. We only accept new students during the school year if space becomes available.

Parent Observation
Observations in the elementary program are scheduled for 9:00am, weekdays. You will have the opportunity to see elementary students working with one another, the classroom materials, and their teachers. Most observations will last 60-minutes. After the observation please set time aside to discuss any questions or comments you might have.
Student Tour
The elementary tour is an opportunity for the prospective student to spend a day in the program. We ask that the student bring in recent academic work and a book they are currently reading. A heath and emergency form must be completed prior to the student tour.
Paperwork
In order to fulfil Ministry of Education requirements, a copy of both the student's birth certificate and a parent's driver's license is required at the time you enrol your child in the Elementary Program.
Start
We only accept new students throughout the school year if space becomes available.

Primary All-Day Montessori Program
Until 5:00pm at Nanaimo Campus and 3:00pm at Parksville Campus.
Note: There is no Before-School Care for elementary students.
Elementary After-School Care

Parenting

Parenting Classes are offered at the Nanaimo Campus every fall. Eight sessions of 'Parenting the Montessori Way', facilitated by Cynthia Dyer, are designed to provide parents with new tools for parenting effectively with children.
